At the end of the 1800's these 15 point gauges were worked in Calasis, France. The higher the point number, the closer the threads movements to each other and the greater the danger that the threads would meet and break.

The 15 point machines were consequently extremely delicate and proportionately costly to run. They had all but disappeared by the Second World War; the last remaining three machines being idle due to the damage of time and war.

These machines were restored and these are reproductions of the cherished
patterns of the past.
