Seam rippers come in a variety of types.

Kai Seam Ripper

Quickly and safely removes stitches.

Remove first few stitches with a standard seam ripper.
Then, hold the seam open with a slight tension and slide the seam ripper down the length of the seam.
Brush away the little pieces of thread.

It will not cut fabric or skin.
